Bencana Kebakaran Hutan di Hawai, Paling Mematikan dalam Beberapa Tahun di AS

Walai.id, Hawai – Lahaina, sebuah kota di Pulau Maui, Hawai , mengalami kebakaran besar yang sangat parah dan mematikan, Setidaknya 36 orang telah meninggal dunia dan banyak yang harus pergi dari tempat tinggal mereka, Jumat 11/08/2023.

Kebakaran ini juga merusak banyak bangunan dan kendaraan, serta memaksa ribuan orang untuk meninggalkan kota ini yang dulunya merupakan ibu kota Kerajaan Hawaii, Kebakaran ini dimulai pada Selasa malam (8/8) dan menyebar dengan cepat karena angin kencang.

Banyak orang yang terkejut dan harus melarikan diri dari api yang semakin cepat menjalar, Beberapa orang bahkan terpaksa melompat ke laut untuk menyelamatkan diri.

Banyak orang yang sekarang tinggal di tempat perlindungan darurat, Beberapa orang mengalami luka bakar serius dan harus diangkut ke tempat lain untuk mendapatkan perawatan medis, Ada juga lebih dari 11.000 wisatawan yang harus dievakuasi dari Pulau Maui.

“Setidaknya 20 orang mengalami luka bakar serius, dan beberapa di antaranya diangkut dengan pesawat helikopter ke Oahu untuk perawatan medis. Lebih dari 11.000 pengunjung dievakuasi dari Maui, kata Ed Sniffen dari Departemen Transportasi Hawaii pada Rabu malam (9/8).

Pemadam kebakaran sedang berjuang melawan api di beberapa tempat di pulau ini, Kebakaran juga merusak wilayah lain seperti Kula dan Kihei.

Kebakaran ini sangat parah dan sangat merusak, Gubernur dan Presiden AS telah berbicara tentang situasi ini dan memberikan bantuan kepada orang-orang yang terkena dampak.

Gubernur Josh Green mengatakan bahwa Hawaii belum pernah mengalami bencana dan kematian sebesar ini sejak tahun 1960, setahun setelah menjadi negara bagian AS, ketika sebuah tsunami merenggut 61 nyawa.

Presiden Joe Biden pada hari Kamis menyetujui deklarasi bencana untuk Hawaii, memungkinkan individu yang terkena dampak dan pemilik usaha untuk mengajukan permohonan hibah perumahan dan pemulihan ekonomi federal, demikian diumumkan oleh Gedung Putih dalam sebuah pernyataan.

Kebakaran ini merusak harta budaya seperti pohon beringin bersejarah setinggi 60 kaki (18 meter) di Lahaina, yang menandai lokasi istana abad ke-19 Raja Hawaii Kamehameha III, menurut laporan lokal.

Sejumlah 271 struktur rusak atau hancur, demikian dilaporkan Honolulu Star-Advertiser, mengutip laporan resmi dari patroli udara Sipil AS dan Departemen Pemadam Kebakaran Maui.

Kita harus ingat bahwa kebakaran semacam ini bisa disebabkan oleh perubahan iklim yang disebabkan oleh aktivitas manusia. Ini adalah pengingat bahwa kita perlu menjaga lingkungan kita agar tetap aman.
